Maria Karra is a freelance technical translator specializing in aerospace and mechanical engineering and a Greek-English medical interpreter. She holds an undergraduate degree in spacecraft engineering, graduate degrees in electrical engineering, translation, and applied linguistics, and a certificate in medical interpreting. In addition to her translation work, she has eleven years of experience in spacecraft instrumentation testing and quality engineering, and four years of experience as a medical interpreter in oncology. Maria is a founding member of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI) and president of its Ethics Committee, as well as a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She has lived and worked in Greece, France, Belgium, and after more than twenty years in freezing Boston (USA) she recently moved to sunny Miami, Florida. Her working languages are Greek, English, French, and Spanish.
