ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

Master of Laws (LLM) – University of Birmingham, Dubai (Expected 2026)

Currently pursuing an LLM with a focus on Private International Law and Dispute Resolution, enhancing my legal knowledge and skills in a multicultural legal environment.

Master of Arts in Translation – University of Damascus (2017)

I earned my MA in Translation, where my thesis focused on constructed languages in literature and their translation challenges. This study delved into the unique difficulties of translating artificial languages, such as those created in fictional worlds, and how these languages interact with cultural and linguistic systems in both the source and target texts.

Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Literature – Tishreen University, Syria (2012)

During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong command of the English language, with a particular focus on literature, linguistics, and translation, gaining a deep understanding of critical analysis and text interpretation. This academic foundation provided essential theoretical insights that have been crucial to my approach in translation and textual analysis, paving the way for my later specialization in translation.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

With over 10 years of experience ain translation, I have worked on a variety of high-impact projects that span literature, legal, and academic fields. My contributions to the industry include:

Literary Translation: I translated significant literary works, including Out of Darkness, Shining Light by Petina Gappah and The Son of the House by Cheluchi Onyemelukwe.

  • Out of Darkness, Shining Light is a historical novel that recounts the journey of the African men and women who carried the body of the famed explorer Dr. David Livingstone across the continent. This novel is celebrated for its rich portrayal of African perspectives during the colonial era, offering a deep and nuanced exploration of identity, loyalty, and the impact of colonialism.

  • The Son of the House is a powerful narrative set in Nigeria, exploring themes of gender, class, and societal expectations through the intertwined lives of two women. The novel has been praised for its vivid depiction of contemporary Nigerian society and its insightful commentary on the roles and limitations imposed on women.

Academic Articles: My translation work extends to influential academic articles such as “Issues of Concern in the Study of Children’s Literature Translation” and “An Essay about Dialogue: Intertextual Relations between José Saramago, Pieter Bruegel, and Van Gogh”. These projects involved translating complex theories and research findings, bridging linguistic gaps, and enhancing scholarly communication across languages.

Legal Translation: With an on-going professional and academic experience in the legal field and certification by the Syrian Ministry of Justice, I specialize in translating and editing a wide array of legal documents, including judgments, contracts, memoranda, and expert reports. My expertise lies in navigating complex legal terminology in both English and Arabic, ensuring that every document is translated with the utmost precision and clarity. I have extensive experience working within the context of UAE law, with technical proficiency that ensures complex legal concepts are conveyed with accuracy and clarity across languages.
