Daniel Hahn is a writer, editor and translator. His books include The Tower Menagerie and brief biographies of the poets Shelley and Coleridge. He has translated works of fiction by novelists from Angola, Portugal and Spain (winning the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in 2007), and non-fiction by writers ranging from Nobel laureate José Saramago to Brazilian footballer Pelé. He has edited or co-edited a number of reference books including The Oxford Guide to Literary Britain and Ireland (with Nicholas Robins) and the Oxford Companion to Children’s Literature. He is also the editor (with Leonie Flynn and Susan Reuben) of the award-winning series of reading guides for children and teenagers, The Ultimate Book Guides.
He is on the committee of the Translators Association (former chair), Council of the Society of Authors and the Council of Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as a number of advisory groups including Other Stories, Cheltenham Literature Festival, Public Lending Right. He was also appointed Officer of the Order (OBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to literature.
