“Confessions of an American MpT user” – Opening Keynote Speaker

Can there be a legitimate role for machine translation in the life of a professional translator? Find out in Athens!

Kevin Lossner is a professional translator and process consultant with a background in chemical research, medical materials and software development. His first acquaintance with translation environment tools came when the head of a translation team in a company where he worked as a systems consultant asked if there wasn’t “some way to figure out if that familiar-sounding passage in  manual has been translated before”. Since then he has been involved in a wide variety of troubleshooting and work planning challenges ranging from individual freelance jobs to large EU translation contractor teams and learned along the way that much of the common wisdom about CAT tools is nonsense.

His Translation Tribulations blog is a useful source of information on a number of popular translation tools and methods of working. The blog and his book memoQ 6 in Quick Steps emphasizes practical and often unconventional ways of using technology in ways that tool creators themselves sometimes do not realize is possible.

Mr. Lossner, an American from California, lived for many years in the frozen wastes of Germany and is currently learning a new language and culture in the literally and metaphorically warmer climate of Portugal.
