He has edited or co-edited a number of reference books including The Oxford Guide to Literary Britain and Ireland (with Nicholas Robins) and the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordreference.com\/view\/10.1093\/acref\/9780199695140.001.0001\/acref-9780199695140\">Oxford Companion to Children&#8217;s Literature<\/a>.\u00a0 He is also the editor (with Leonie Flynn and Susan Reuben) of the award-winning series of reading guides for children and teenagers,\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.com\/uk\/the-ultimate-book-guide-9781408104385\/\">The Ultimate Book Guides<\/a>.<\/p><p>He is on the committee of the Translators Association (former chair), <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.societyofauthors.org\/About-Us\/Council\">Council of the Society of Authors<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shakespearesglobe.com\/discover\">Council of Shakespeare&#8217;s Globe<\/a>, as well as a number of advisory groups including Other Stories, Cheltenham Literature Festival, Public Lending Right.
