The pragmatics of the political discourse is conditioned by specific functions of the political speeches that derive from, and then appeal to the peculiar cultural consciousness of the targeted audience. The success of the political speech is instrumented by a range of the linguistic means, which are aimed to trigger the inner stratum of the audience’s concepts, values, and beliefs, which will motivate their further behaviours and choices. The complexity of the political discourse prag-matics deepens in case of translating it from the one language to another, seeking to achieve the equivalent effect upon the foreign language recipients. The complicated and widely disputable problem of translating political discourse is the key topic of this presentation. It is intended to focus upon pragmatic peculiarities of the Russian political discourse, highlighting main tendencies in the political speech architectonics, concepts, culturally and politically conditioned vocabulary. The study is based upon the principles of the pragmatics and discourse analysis in translation, and discusses recent speeches of the Russian leaders concerning internal and external political affairs. To illustrate current translation practices and solutions, the original Russian political texts are com-pared with their English translations. Alongside with the main aim, the presentation explicates dominating psychological archetypes which are targeted by the Russian political speakers in order to enhance their influence upon the Russian speaking audience in their endeavours to gain the recipients’ sympathy and support.
